![]() ![]() And by the time I came on board years later, Yoshi P and the crew had already 'righted the ship' as it were. I didn't play or follow MMO's back in 2010, but I remember at the time hearing rumblings of how the XIV launch was a disaster. FFXIV is probably my most played game of all time, but I started playing it fairly late (Stormblood was already out when I first checked out the free trial). I don't really have anything to contribute since I wasn't there, but hearing first hand experiences of 1.0 always fascinates me. That's the things I can gather at the top of my head. Some areas where simply totally devoid of life (Coerthas I think? there was one outpost, and the rest where barrens) Impossible to understand crafting system, it was really chaoticĪs mentioned many times, the game was really taxing on the hardware, if you didn't had a top of the line computer, performances where usually bad It was not shared between cities too, so, at some point, almost all servants where stationed in Uldah, making it the central market hubĮnd of the story-line at around lvl 40 or something IIRC ? ![]() No auction-house, the servants where physically in a room, where you had to click every single ones to know what they where selling. ![]() If you went full dex/str as DRG or MNK for accuracy (which you needed a lot for many skills), well, too bad for your Black Mage I guess No automatic stats gains when leveling, which meant that you could basically screw your char stats, oh and also, the stats pool was shared across ALL jobs. If you played too much there was a malus that reduced your xp gains They tried to stifle your progress by limited how many leve you could do a dayĪ big problem when that was the only thing to doĪnd just in case ppl found ways to progress Story mission and job quests were incompleteĬouldn't really form experience points party The game had nothing to do outside of leve Worse still, each time you craft you had to go through a mini game process that made no senseĪnd that required opening up menus after menus Each requiring long load time Like a shield needed like 5 different crafted partsĮach crafted parts need additional crafted partsĪnd those crafted parts each needed 5 ingredients Mobs had no aggro/hate meter so it'd attack anyone on randomĪnd since you could mix all skills from all jobsĮveryone just spammed cures nonstop to gain XPĮvery single craft required a million little ingredients and multiple steps of crafting Gaining experience points in a fight was like completely random There's no description on how bad the load time wasĮven bringing up a menu/map took 25-45 secondsĪnd any additional sub menu each added another 25+ seconds Playing it was like getting punched in the face ![]()
